LOS ANGELES, CA: First Language sources unique (just like you) pieces & bring new life to old favorites with eco-friendly dyes and fabrics.
#storybehindthestoreFrom the creators, sisters Kat and Christina: “We started First Language in August of 2020 with avocado-dyed shirts (we eat quite a lot of them). We love creating with our hands, and seeing people’s positive responses to our work is what got us going. It has been life-giving to work together throughout the pandemic.
The inspiration behind our brand is tied to intersectional environmentalism. It is about honoring the planet and uplifting marginalized peoples. We are proud Latinas and love to represent our Latinx culture. No matter your ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, or age, everyone has a First Language. Our ideas and creations are merely outlets to help express what makes you unique.”
#funfact First Language’s custom dye service renews items you already own in solid, patterned, and/or multi-colored varieties, and all their packaging is previously used or owned. With this effort, they hope to give extended life to already produced materials.
#mothersday“We hold a special place in our hearts for youth and community development and live that out through volunteering and dedicating our lives to promoting healthy families. Kat is a freelance Art and Creative Director who works with BIPOC and women-owned businesses to amplify their voices and experiences. Christina is currently working towards a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is passionate about reproductive mental health at the intersection of infertility, loss, and motherhood.”
